A Charity Island Vacation, like so many in Michigan, offers wonderful accommodations, wonderful dining and an endless diversity of water activities. Charity Island is a protected federal sanctuary in the Northern part of Saginaw Bay in beautiful Lake Huron. Actually, Charity Island is two islands. Generally, when people refer to Charity Island, they are referring to Big Charity Island. The second island is called, without much originality, is Little Charity Island. A Big Charity Island Vacation takes advantage of the roughly 300 acre island. I say roughly, because the islands edges are greatly affected by the water levels at Saginaw Bay. Charity Island Vacations are made possible because of the "Michigan Islands National Wildlife Refuge" system that protects it as an environmental challenge. The US Fish and Wildlife Service has cared for Charity Island since 1997.
A Charity Island Vacation is a wonderful chance to get back to nature. The rustic setting is so relaxing that the trappings of the “mainland” will quickly fade away. But, there are a few things to know before striking out for your Charity Island vacation. There is a looonngg list of “no’s” on Charity Island. There is no camping, no campfires, and no firearms – which would equate to no hunting. No fireworks, no pets and no alcohol. No that you know the “no’s” there’s one big thing to remember. The island is beautiful and pristine. The reason for all of the rules is to protect it. Spend a night, and preferably more, of your big charity Island Vacation at the only place to spend the night: Charity Island Lodge. The lodge sleeps 6 and has a kitchen stocked with the necessities. You’ll need to bring your food, water and bed linens.
The ferry service to Charity Island make day trips possible. The island is 10 miles from the mainland shore. A number of trips include dinner and one a tour of the classic Lighthouse. The trip is wonderful and a spectacular way to visit the island, even if you don’t want a full blown Charity Island Vacation. There are a number of great spots in the Charity Island vicinity.
